TORRANCE, CALIFORNIA (BNO NEWS) – Honda will recall approximately 197,000 Accord and 117,000 Civic vehicles from the 2003 model year and roughly 69,000 Element vehicles from the 2003 and 2004 model years in the United States due to malfunction in the ignition interlock feature, the company announced on Monday.

Honda said it has received numerous complaints regarding those models and has also received a ’small number’ of related incidents, including one that resulted in a minor injury. Honda will recall 197,000 Accord cars, 117,000 Civic units and 69,000 Element vehicles.

The ignition interlock mechanism of these vehicles can be damaged or worn during use. If this occurs, it may become impossible to remove the ignition key when the shift lever is not in park. If the lever is not in park mode and the parking brake is not set, the vehicle could roll away, and a crash could happen.

Honda will start notifications this coming September. The company is encouraging all American owners that receive a notification to take their vehicle to an authorized dealer as their vehicle requires repair.

The company said they have as a top priority the safety of their costumers and fulfilling their obligation and responsibility to alert their clients. Honda users can also check online if their vehicle is in need of repairing.
