Sao Paulo, July 10 (THAINDIAN NEWS) An honest homeless couple in Brazil found $10,000 in local currency on a sidewalk and they immediately turned it over to the police.

The Brazilian couple was having a morning stroll when they heard a noise. They walked over to the source of the noise and were astounded to find a briefcase and a garbage can filled to the brim with the Brazilian currency – reals. There was around 20,000 reals in the garbage can which means approximately $10,000.

The homeless couple then went to a security guard and requested him to report the matter to the police.

“When we arrived, the couple gave us the money. It might be the money stolen last week from a Japanese restaurant,” according to military police spokesman Bruno dos Santos.

He also added that the pair was poor and they could have had kept the money for themselves, but they didn’t do so.

Jesus Silva Santos “had the opportunity to flee with the money, but they called a security guard and asked him to call the military police. What they did is commendable,” the spokesman added.

Jesus Silva Santos said that keeping the money for himself never was an issue for him as his mother taught him to be honest.
