grave Bucharest, Nov 7 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Holocaust researchers have discovered a mass grave in the forest of Romania that they say contain the remains of estimated 100 Jews. The Elie Wiesel National Institute for the Study of the Holocaust in Romania announced on Friday that they believe the Jews were slaughtered by the Romanian army in 1941.

The revelation brings to fore Romania’s involvement in the systematic killings of Jews in the World War II era. The grave contained the remains of men, women and children and the researchers say that they believe the victims were all shot before being buried in the grave. Fingers are being pointed at the Romanian army for the atrocity and it is interesting development because Romania’s official history blames Germany for being solely responsible for the holocaust that claimed the lives of several millions of Jews.

It is estimated that Romania which is home to just 6,000 Jews was responsible for the murder of 280,000 Jews during the reign of the country’s worst dictator, Marshal Ion Antonescu. The country has long disputed its role in the holocaust but a 2004 dispute with Israel over comments on the holocaust led to the institution of the Elie Wiesel National Institute for the Study of the Holocaust in Romania. The institute is investigating the role of Romania in the holocaust.
