hollywood Los Angeles, Feb 10 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A nonprofit group- Public Trust for Lands has designs on the Hollywood sign. They are planning to cover it up with a banner that says ‘Save the Peak’ this week. They also plan to purchase the neighboring Cahuenga Peak for around $11.7 million. Private developers own this Cahuenga Peak. They also disclosed that they have managed to raise almost half of the price of the peak. However they still have some more time to raise the rest of the money, as the deadline to seal the deal is the 14th of April 2010.

“This is as an iconic a view as you’ll see anywhere in the country,” said Sam Hodder, California state director of the land trust. “People fly from all over the world to come to Hollywood and see this sign. And if there were houses put up on this hill, the Hollywood sign would never be the same.”

A group of Chicago investors had purchased the Cahuenga Peak from Howard Hughes estate in 2002. They had planned to build luxury homes there. However since then the city officials and residents have been worried that if this happens, then the iconic letters would be scarred forever.
