Helicopter Crash In Maryland Kills Four

chopperIn an unfortunate accident, it is reported that almost four people have died when a helicopter crash landed on western Maryland highway. Kevin Lewis, the director of the county emergency services said that the crash is supposed to have occurred at about 10:30 p.m on Thursday on the Interstate 70 in the Washington County.

Reports suggest that that the helicopter sprinted forth on the highway and burst in to flames after it crashed down on the road. All the four passengers on board is said to have tragically died in the accident.

Lewis said, “When emergency personnel arrived, they found a small commercial aircraft, a Robinson 44 helicopter, with four passengers.” He further stated, “I can confirm four fatalities on site as a result of the crash.”

When it crash landed on the eastbound lanes of the Interstate 70, the chopper did not fortunately hit any passing vehicle, which would have added on to the woes further. The highway had to be shut down temporarily so that the officials could investigate the scene of the accident. According to the Maryland State Police, the road was made open to the commuters, early next morning (Friday), at about 5 a.m ET.

A storm had passed through the area sometime before the crash happened and it was still foggy; it has not been made clear though if the accident had taken place because of the weather or it was the result of any technical snags. A witness had reported seeing the aircraft fly low and suddenly a flare of light, when the chopper had gotten tangled in the electrical wires. What cannot be accounted for is whether the chopper was already heading for a crash by then or the wires pulled it down.
