Helicopter crash during Honduran air show kills pilot, injures 6-year-old boy
September 19th, 2010 - 4:02 am ICT by BNO NewsTEGUCIGALPA (BNO NEWS) — A military helicopter crashed on Saturday in Honduras during an air show for children in the country’s north, killing the pilot and injuring a 6-year-old boy, the military said in a statement.
The accident occurred inside the military base of the La Mesa airport in the city port of San Pedro Sula, around 200 kilometers (124 miles) north of the capital of Tegucigalpa.
The pilot Rommel Ortega, 38, was killed in the crash and a 6-year-old suffered a broken arm when a tree branch fell on him.
The Bell-206 helicopter crash was witnessed by 1,500 children of police, firefighters and street cleaners.
