- Massachusetts, Nov 8 (THAINDIAN NEWS) There have been enormous traffic jams throughout the whole of eastern Massachusetts due to a spate of numerous state road projects from Bourne to Lowell.
“You can’t escape the traffic,” said Arthur Brussard, owner of Truck Courier in Woburn. “It’s extremely disruptive.” He added. He is facing the same situation as tens of thousands of other drivers who have also been facing the same late-night tie-ups over the last six months
“The amount of money the state is spending on repaving and road and bridge repairs is “unprecedented,” and the vast majority of work is being done at night”, said Luisa Paiewonsky, highway division administrator for the Department of Transportation.
“It really represents trying to catch up from a couple of decades of underinvestment in the highway system including bridges,” said Paiewonsky. “Government stimulus funding for roads jumped from $5 million last year to $63 million, and this is the second year of a $3 billion, eight-year repair plan targeting 250 of 500 bridges”, she said.
“I get a little aggravated, but I’m not surprised,” said Fred Hartblay, 59, who faces traffic jams in the wee hours of the morning at 2 a.m. as he drives home to West Bridgewater from his job Weymouth. ‘’I’d much rather deal with it at night than the day.”
