Heavy rains cause havoc in Haiti

Port-au-Prince, Mar 22 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The earthquake ravaged Haiti has been lashed by heavy rains. The hapless residents of the country were already coping with the devastation caused by the earthquake, and now the heavy rains have added to their woes. The heavy rains are furthering adding to the misery of the residents, as it has managed to destroy the homeless camps and other temporary rescue facilities.
The floodwaters are also rising and it is leading to a lot of misery for the Haitian citizens. Since the last few days the heavy downpour is increasing, and the 19th of March witnessed the heaviest amount of downpour. The rescue camps, which are placed at the foothills, have already been deluged. The campers watched in horror as their belongings were washed away in the sudden floods. Some of the campers were lucky enough to be located on higher ground, so they were able to retrieve their belongings and rush to safety.
The makeshift toilets have also been flooded with the torrential rains, and the sewage is overflowing into the streets. There are fears of an epidemic too, because of the overflowing sewage problem. The rescuers had made makeshift schools for the children, and now they have also been destroyed by the torrential rainfall.
