LONDON (BNO NEWS) — BAA on Sunday said it would soon install full-body scanners at London’s Heathrow Airport in the wake of a failed terrorist attack aboard a Detroit-bound passenger plane on Christmas Day.

“Now that the government has given the go-ahead, we will introduce full-body scanners as soon as practical,” said a spokesman for BAA, which owns and operates six British airports. “It is our view that a combination of technology, intelligence and passenger profiling will help build a more robust defense against the unpredictable and changing nature of the terrorist threat against aviation.”

The Netherlands last week was the first country to introduce the full-body scanners at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport.

On Christmas Day, a Nigerian who allegedly had ties with al-Qaeda, boarded a Detroit-bound passenger plane at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport carrying explosives. The terror suspect attempted to detonate the explosives as it was flying over Detroit.
