Sacramento, Jan 13 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Angry ranchers in California have shot and killed three Hearst Ranch zebras which had escaped from the ranch.

The ranchers who are all live in the same neighborhood as the Hearst Ranch claim that the escaped animals had threatened their livestock. The action has received some strong condemnation from animal preservationists that claim that the claim of the ranchers have no merit.

Two of the animals were shot by David Fiscalini when they entered his cattle ranched and the other zebra was shot by another neighbor. However reports that Fiscalini wanted the animal skinned to make a rag infuriated many people. Fiscalini declined that he killed the animals for their skin. He told the San Luis Obispo Tribune that when the animals got to his ranch, they spooked his horses and he had to take the action to protect the horses and the cattles.

The three animals that were shot were a buck, a mare and a yearling. They were part of about 80 other zebras that roam what is left of William Randolph Hearst’s private zoo.

The animals in the Hearst Ranch are visible to motorists that use the route in front of the ranch and they give the rare opportunity for them to witness the animal graze. The Hearst Ranch was the biggest private zoo.
