item Washington, Mar 11 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The personal items of the famous abolitionist Harriet Tubman will be at display at the National Mall. Harriet Tubman is well known for freeing hundreds of slaves via the Underground Railroad. A new museum of the African American history would open soon in the National Mall in 2015, and her personal effects would be kept on display there. Fans would be able to see the personal items of Harriet Tubman, due to the generosity of the historian Charles L. Blockson, who has donated around 40 items to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture.

The personal items of Harriet that would be put on display are a knife and spoon, her favorite hymnal, and even a shawl that was presented to her by Queen Victoria. “For me to be able to tell the story of the Underground Railroad through Harriet Tubman with actual artifacts is really a surprise I didn’t expect,” museum director Lonnie Bunch said. When he saw the artifacts the first time, he said, was “really one of the most moving moments in my career.”

It may be recalled that Harriet Tubman was born as a slave in Maryland’s Eastern Shore. She was a brave woman and she escaped from the clutches of her master, but she was a selfless person too, as she wasn’t merely satisfied with her own freedom. She helped others to attain freedom too.
