Hardee’s shapes up turkey burger
March 22nd, 2011 - 6:46 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattNew York, Mar 22 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Restaurant chain Hardee is trying to carve a new image for itself after the eatery came up with the first sub-500 calorie turkey burger.
Hardee a few years ago caused quite a stir when they introduced a 1,400-calorie behemoth. A nutrition advocacy group leading a campaign against the food labeled it “the fast-food equivalent of a snuff film.” Few years later, the CEO of CKE Restaurants, Andy Puzder, says the company’s perspective on healthy diet has improved with the lifestyle of young Americans.
CKE Restaurants owns Hardee and in an interview with USA Today, Puzder said that, “There’s a shift in eating habits among young, hungry men…They’re still looking for indulgent foods, but they want them more healthful.”
Hardee’s move is seen by some analysts as smart. The United States is a country struggling with obesity mainly due to the taste that the population has acquired. Coming out with something based on their taste and at the same time healthy is seen by some as commendable.
The turkey burger has 480 calories and a nutritionist at Stanford University, Jo Ann Hattner, has praised the company for the efforts in coming out with the burger.
