Happy Thanksgiving Day
November 25th, 2009 - 9:53 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattNew York, Nov 25 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Thanksgiving Day is on 26th November, which is a day to be spent with family and friends and to be thankful for everything. It started off by being a primarily harvest festival. Traditionally, it is an occasion to say thanks for the harvest and express gratitude in general. It is a holiday celebrated primarily in Canada and the United States. Though Thanksgiving started out primarily as a religious holiday, now it has secular over-tones.
Thanksgiving started around the country in the mid-19th century, with the hope that it would help in healing the North-&-South divide. So, the Thanksgiving menu had to be a mix of the traditional North as well as the South recipes in a bid to placate the feelings of both the communities. Turkey and Pumpkin pie are the staple on the Thanksgiving Dinner table.
It is a much loved and quiet a favorite holiday due to the merriment and the joys associated with it. Plus the special Thanksgiving Dinner is something that the whole family looks forward to all year.
On account of the secular holiday, there is bound to be ample confusion over which offices are closed and which are open. So Boerne City Hall and the Kendall County Courthouse will be closed on Thursday and Friday on account of the Thanksgiving holidays.
Most state and federal government offices are also closed and there will be no mail delivery on Thanksgiving Day. However the Post Office will re-open Friday.
