In Clark County the residents along with the kids took part in the festivities. The people gorged on foods like potato latkes, jelly dough nuts and a lot of desserts meant for the occasion. A lot of people hit the streets to join the festivities amidst rain and chilly weather. In Vancouver it was the sixth yearly menorah lighting. As a matter of fact Hanukkah is said to be the “festival of lights” and illuminating a menorah candle each night of the 8 day long festival is a ritual that Jews follow.

The religious Jews describe it as a celebration of the victory of “good over evil, light over darkness and spirituality over materialism.” Tim Leavitt the Vancouver Mayor was present at Esther Short Park for lighting up the menorah. The crowd inside Hilton Vancouver Washington filled the banquet room and there were arrangements for music as well. In other places such as Washington DC, the local Jews also gathered to celebrate the festival. Jack Lew lit the National Menorah and the U.S. Navy Band along with Itzhak Perlman a reputed violinist performed on the occasion.

This was possibly the biggest toy Menorah of Florida. Before the menorah was lit the toys were put into it. The toys will be distributed on Saturday to kids.
