Port-Au-Prince, Jan 15 (THAINDIAN NEWS) After the shock of losing their loved ones and materialistic possessions as well, the Haiti earthquake survivors are struggling all the more. This is because the region is choked with the dead and the decaying bodies. The food, water and the medical supplies are also far and few in between.
Some desperate victims have even resorted to looting and arson for the supplies. The aid and the rescue workers are doing their best to restore a system and peace in the region, but their best is apparently not enough. There is chaos all over as there is no system in place to distribute the supplies. “I don’t think that a word has been invented for what is happening in Haiti,” said Liony Batista, the Food For the Poor project manager in Port-au-Prince.” It is total disaster.”
The 7.0-magnitude Haitian earthquake happened around 4.53 p.m. local time on Tuesday, according to the United States Geological Survey, making it the strongest earthquake ever recorded within 200 kilometers. It struck about 10 miles southwest of the country’s capital, Port-au-Prince. The earthquake had a depth of only 10 kilometers (6.2 miles), so there is a greater chance of severe damage. And around 50,000 people were killed in that quake.
