Gunman storms Topeka, Kansas hospital
July 13th, 2009 - 1:57 am ICT by adminTOPEKA, Kansas (BNO NEWS) — An unknown gunman stormed a Topeka, Kansas hospital on Sunday afternoon, officials told BNO News.
Multiple emergency services are at Colmery-O’Neil VA Medical Center after the incident began. A police officer told BNO News that a gunman entered the building but said it was unclear if it’s a hostage situation or a gunman barricaded inside. The Topeka Capital-Journal said the incident is being described as a hostage situation, but did not say how many people may have been taken hostage.
The police officer did not know if any shots had been fired. A SWAT team and hostage negotiators are responding to the scene.
Former Topeka City Councilwoman Lana Kennedy told the Topeka Capital-Journal that her husband, Bob Kennedy, was among those unable to leave the building because of the situation.
