AUSTIN, TEXAS (BNO NEWS) — An unidentified man on Tuesday opened fire at a library in the University of Texas-Austin before taking his own life without any others reportedly injured, the university said.

The university confirmed that the person involved in the shooting, which began at around 9 a.m. local time, was dead on the sixth floor of the Perry-CastaƱeda Library from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, but issued a warning to its students and staff.

“The university is locked down. All organized classes for today, September 28, are canceled. If you are off campus, stay away. If you are on campus, lock your doors and do not leave your building,” it said on its website.

Officials were still looking for another possible shooter as witnesses gave different descriptions.

In 1966, Charles Whitman killed 14 people and wounded 32 after positioning himself from the University of Texas’ iconic tower.
