Florida, Oct 6 (THAINDIAN NEWS) University of South Florida was laid under siege when an armed suspicious character was found loitering about near the balcony. The whole university was in a curfew like situation for around 3 hours.

Studies and other activities were totally hampered. Students were sent a text message asking them to refrain from venturing out on the campus. The university’s transit system was also shut down for the lockdown duration and emergency sirens were put in place.

The police arrested one suspect, though it was not clear whether he was the gunman or not.

Lt. Meg Ross, of the USF Police Department, said a man was apprehended after he stood up on a campus bus and stated he was the person authorities were looking for.

Police were able to get him off the bus.

“As I understand it, he did respond to our commands,” Ross said.

No shots were reported to have been fired and no other casualties or injuries were sustained by anybody. The suspect who was arrested was dressed in a green and a yellow shirt. He was carrying a backpack, which was suspected to be a bomb. So it was left unattended till the bomb disposal squad came and checked it out and declared that there was nothing dangerous in the bag.
