LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA (BNO NEWS) – A man was arrested on Wednesday in relation to the Grim Sleeper serial killer case that resulted in at least 11 deaths, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Lonnie David Franklin Jr., 57, was arrested by Los Angeles Police Department Robbery-Homicide detectives after a lengthy task force investigation. Franklin will probably be charged later with 10 counts of murder with the special allegation of multiple murders. If charged with the previous counts, he would be eligible for death penalty or life in prison without parole.

Franklin is alleged to be the serial killer nicknamed as Grim Sleeper due to the long pauses between murders. He targeted black women, usually prostitutes of 14 to 36 years of age that lived within Los Angeles County.

The first murder took place in August 1985, while the last was in January 2007. He killed them using the same caliber weapon. The bodies were dumped in alleys, covered with debris, with gunshot wounds to the chest and/or strangled.

Previously, a man was arrested for allegedly being the Grim Sleeper serial killer but this was proved wrong. However Los Angeles detectives are sure they arrested the real killer this time.

Franklin will also be charged with one count of attempted willful, deliberate, and premeditated murder. He is expected to be arraigned on Thursday in the Foltz Criminal Justice Center.
