Oakland, Nov 21, (THAINDIAN NEWS) For the 909 people who had died 32 years ago in the Jonestown tragedy in Guyana, a granite monument will be built. This was announced earlier this week by a group of the Peoples Temple survivors.
This granite monument will be built as a mark to show respect to those who had fallen victims to this tragedy. According to sources, some of the ex-members are now fed up with the attempts undertaken by Rev. Jynona Norwood over the past years. Rev. Jynona Norwood had undertaken to built a 36 feet long stone wall, something in the style of Vietnam Veterans Memorial, at the Oakland cemetery. Oakland cemetery is the burial ground for more than 400 unidentified and unclaimed bodies. Jim Jones Junior, is now leading this new team who have come up with this proposal to erect this granite memorial. Jim Jones Junior announced that since they had no hope left for the efforts undertaken by Rev. Jynona Norwood, they had to come up with this alternate idea. He said that till now it has been planned that four large stone slabs would be placed flat on the grassy mound of the cemetery, in such a way that it will be overlooking the San Francisco Bay.
It is a kind of a challenge for the group, to establish the mission that has been pending for a long time. On, the whole they claimed that it was high time that they shift towards new ideas, since much time has already been given to the previous plan by Rev. Jynona Norwood, without any kind of fruitful results.
