Jan 3, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Technology has made life a lot more easier for all of us. However, it is not everyday that one comes across technology being used to help immigrants. Three professors from California are said to be developing a special cellphone application that may aid immigrants cross the border safely. The application makes use of GPS technology. As per the reports, the Transborder Immigrant Tool is useful for the immigrants and they would be able to locate water in the deserts adjacent to the border. Besides, the application will also help them find their ways in the region.
The news of the professors at the University of California developing the tool has created waves among the scientists. People are searching on the web for updates on it. It has also given birth to a controversy that the application will help the illegal immigrants to trespass the borders. The phone will have a chip meant to locate water stations for the users. The researchers who have developed the tool believe that it is a humanitarian effort and denies the buzz that there are other intentions behind its development.
The Human right organizations in Mexico estimate that almost 5,000 people passed away in the last 15 years while trying to trespass the border. However, the device may spark tension in the political circles before it gets the approval. There is a chance that the device can be used for wrong purposes- in case the smugglers get their hands on it. The technology is unique and it needs to be implemented in the right ways.
