RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA (BNO NEWS) – On Thursday, a convicted felon of Goldsboro, North Carolina was sentenced to 10 years (120 months) in prison, followed by three years of supervised release for unlawful possession of a firearm, U.S. Attorney George Holding announced.

Jerome Demond Wright, 26, was stopped by a Goldsboro police officer for an equipment violation of his vehicle. He was asked for his license by the policeman and made an unsatisfactory response. The officer asked him to step out of the car, Wright refused and pulled out a gun and pointed it at the law agent. Wright fired twice and the police officer managed to fire back, shooting Wright in his buttocks. Finally, the felon threw the gun and a bag of marijuana under the vehicle.

“We take seriously those who try to harm the individuals responsible for maintaining public order and protecting citizens. We appreciate and are thankful for the men and women who put their lives on the line while carrying this responsibility,” Mr. Holding said.
