August 7, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): Stephen Hale, 30, mailman of Gloucester Massachusetts was apprehended by the police when they found drugs in his mail bag. He is said to have delivered drugs along with the mail.

The investigators had set up a sting operation in order to catch him red handed. Fox News reports that Hale had been trying to sell Oxycontin at the rate of $70 a pill.

He is believed to have sold the drug Oxycontin when he went from house to house delivering mail. Ken Ryan, the police detective informed the media quoting a source who had reported that Hale had been peddling the drug as well as using it himself while on duty.

The detective told WBZ, an affiliate of CBS, that although Hale did not really try to introduce the drug to the houses that he visited in the course of his work, he must have had some strategic points where he went to distribute and use the drug.

Hale now has more than one cause of worry. He has been suspended with immediate effect by the postal service and is currently not receiving any pay.

The residents of Gloucester are not at all amused by the incident either. A woman has been quoted as saying that there are a lot of drugs going around and the young children are being exposed to it on a regular basis. But the incidence of a mailman delivering such lethal substance is too horrible for words.

The law enforcement authorities have also come across an open birthday card which contained $10. Hale has also been accused of larceny in addition to his drug charges now.

He is out currently on bail which had been set at $5,000.
