Washington, Aug 29, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The ‘Restoring Honor’ rally that was organized by talk show host Glenn Beck on Saturday in front of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington witnessed an astounding turn-out with an estimated 87,000 people attending the convention. Among the tens and thousands of people who turned up for the event, many of them were members of the Tea Party, a movement that is carried out by conservative activists to raise their voice against higher taxes and call for limited government. Apart from Glenn Beck who addressed the crowd during the rally, former vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin also graced the event and addressed the thousands of attendees.
The Fox network presenter had pitched the rally as an attempt to “restore America’s honor,” urging citizens of the nations to attend the mass meeting in the national capital of United States to turn into a grand success. While addressing the massive crowd, Glenn Beck emphasized that America today is turning back to God while noting that something that is beyond anybody’s imagination is ultimately happening. The surge of patriotism was palpable among the attendees as conservative speakers Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin urged the crowd to take steps to restore America back to its past glory.
One of the main reasons owing to which the rally organized by Glenn Beck took a controversial turn was because of the decision to hold the rally 47 years after civil rights activist Martin Luther King delivered his famous “I Have a Dream” speech at the very same spot. However, Glenn Beck brushed away the controversy saying that the organizing the rally on the same day was ‘pure coincidence.’
