August 7, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): Caroline, 20, the daughter of the former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani had been detected shoplifting on Wednesday.

Paul Browne, a spokesperson for the New York Police Department said that Caroline had been caught on camera taking five cosmetic items from the Sephora beauty store in Manhattan. The items were priced at $100 and consisted of Bliss hydroderm cream, a rollerball funnel, a hair net, Skinflash Primer and an Aqua Cream.

The store manager had initially informed the law enforcement authorities but declined to press charges later. The police, however, arrested her on charges of petty larceny.

Caroline Giuliani left the police precinct on Wednesday evening with her mother. She was seen wearing black pants teamed with a red sweater. She refused to answer the questions asked by the media as she got into a SUV and drove away.

The ex mayor, Rudy Giuliani asked the media to leave her alone as it is a personal matter. He was speaking through a spokesperson.

The District Attorney’s office in Manhattan is undecided about pressing the charges as yet said their spokes woman Erin Duggan. Caroline will have to appear in court on the 31st of August.

Caroline is the younger of the two children the mayor had with his ex wife Donna Hanover. She is not close to her politician father revealed the sources.

Caroline chose to back Obama by joining a Facebook group when her father hoped to be elected as the Republican candidate. She, however, left the group after a magazine inquired into her reasons and refused to comment on the presidential race.

Rudy Giuliani lost to the U.S. Senator John McCain who ultimately lost to Obama.

His son Andrew Giuliani said that their relationship with their father had been strained since the messy divorce with their mother and his subsequent marriage to another woman.

The news of the arrest for shoplifting was first reported by the New York Post.
