San Francisco, July 24, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Residents of San Francisco and America as a whole are all set to celebrate the Gilroy Garlic Festival to be held over this weekend. So this is the time for all around the United States to take their pick of the spiciest and freshest garlic available in the country. The Gilroy Garlic Festival assembles the best variety of garlic grown in the farms of the United States in the markets of San Francisco, garlic which ranges from the spicy to the mellow and sweet.
The greater percentage of the garlic that is sold in the Gilroy Garlic Festival comes from the Hunter Orchards of Siskiyou County where the extremely low temperatures in the winter season helps the garlic to attain a unique flavor. The Korean Red Hot garlic which is grown in the Thomas Farms of Corralitos in the Santa Cruz County has a more spicy flavor to it, say the farmers, while the Elephant garlic, which comes in the shape of a soft ball, is a sweet variety of garlic. Considering that California is the largest manufacturer of the spice, producing more than 90 percent of garlic in America, it is no wonder that the local people are offered such a large variety to choose from.
Large amounts of the spice will be purchased from the San Francisco markets during this weekend. Farmers selling the garlic at the Gilroy Garlic Festival say that preserving the garlic is not a very tough job. If the garlic is stored inside a cool dark place, the flavor and nutrient value of garlic is retained for a fairly long time.
