Washington DC, May 9 (THAINDIAN NEWS) During the recent raid which killed Osama bin Laden, the US special forces reported back to the White House with the words “Geronimo Ekia” meaning the enemy has been killed in action.

People expected that all Americans should be happy that bin Laden has been killed. That does not seem to be the case though. The use of the name “Geronimo” has offended some Native Americans who say the US administration is trying to compare their hero to the world’s most wanted man.

Geronimo’s grandson wants the United States to change the name of the operation. In a statement, Harlyn Geronimo urged the administration to explain why they chose the name of someone like his grandfather for the operation.

The statement said that, “And to call the operation to kill or capture Osama bin Laden by the name Geronimo is such a subversion of history that it also defames a great human spirit and Native American leader.”

The famous Geronimo is highly revered among Native Americans. His was born in 1829 and died in 1909 after surrendering to the American soldiers. According to history, Geronimo took arms and joined in the rebellion against the American and Mexican troops when his family was slaughtered.
