Germany Court Ruling States Women Must Wear Bras
January 15th, 2011 - 12:54 am ICT by Angela Kaye MasonJan 14 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A judged in Germany ruled on Wednesday that bosses not only have the right to insist that women trim their fingernails, but can also force women to wear bras to work as well, and those bras must be either white or flesh colored. A female worker’s fingernail length can be decided by her supervisors, and they also have the right to make sure that her hair is clean and groomed properly.
The court ruling did not just pertain to women however, as it states that men may have beards, but that their bosses can order that it be trimmed neatly, and not look like a member of ‘ZZTop’.
The case involved the grooming habits, and dress codes for employees who work as airport security personnel, but will apply to any place off business and workplace in the German state. The State Labor Court in North Rhine-Westphalia made the decision. The Cologne court stated, ‘Being told to wear a bra and to keep fingernails to shorter than half-a-centimetre does not impinge on personal rights. It is not a disproportionate impairment of personal rights.’
The workers did retain the right to choose their own hair color, nail color, and the ability to wear wigs.
