Berlin, July 12 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A German court ruling in Cologne against circumcision has managed to raise a big hue and cry. Jews and Muslims have come together to protest against the ruling, which prohibits majority of the circumcisions in the city.

Muslim and Jews aren’t the best of friends and it is rare to see them united in an effort to protest against the ruling.

The court had delivered the judgment in May, but it was made public and published last month on the 26th and since then, there has been a lot of bad blood over it.

The Central Council of Jews in Germany protested against the ruling and it said that it was “unprecedented and dramatic intervention in the right of religious communities to self-determination” and “an outrageous and insensitive act.”

Aiman A. Mazyek, who is the chairman of the Central Committee of Muslims in Germany said that, “Certain elements of society see a threat in the other, in people who look and think differently.”

Serkan Tören, who is a member of the Free Democratic Party, said that, “a ban on circumcision would be the clearest signal to the Muslims in our country that they aren’t part of Germany, that they aren’t even welcome.”
