May 24 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A woman from Paulding County Georgia was rushed to the hospital, and awoke to find out that she was in ICU and had lost her left breast, but it was not cancer which caused Victoria Franklin to need a double mastectomy, it was a spider bite!

Franklin is recovering from the major surgery after being bitten by the brown recluse somewhere in her home. She is not sure exactly when she was bitten, and was not even aware that was the problem when she went to the hospital. “I would have never known in a million years that a spider could ever do this much damage,” she told reporters at the WellStar Windy Hill Hospital on Friday, May 21. When asked how she felt to wake up and realize that she had lost her breast she stated, “I didn’t flip out over that. I was glad to be alive.” She had been in a coma for 11 days.

Franklin said that she had found lumps on her breast after returning from church on Easter Sunday but did not think much of it at the time. By Friday she could not take the pain any longer. “My breast had turned black and it got so big, I couldn’t even fit it in my bra,” said Franklin. “I woke up in excruciating pain and the smell was so strong I couldn’t do anything but call my friend and say, ‘Please come get me.’” By the time she arrived at the hospital, she was in a coma and the breast had to be removed. She will need reconstructive surgery and will also have to learn to do many things, such as walk, again.

Franklin urges everyone to watch out for these spiders, which are brown and have violin shapes on their backs. She also stated that although she knew that they were in her home, she just had not bothered to have them exterminated, and she strongly recommends that anyone who knows they have these spiders around get rid of them.
