georgeNew York, Apr 20, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The First president of United States George Washington owes not only two books but also late fine of reportedly $300,000 to The New York Society Library. The revelation was made by the officials of the library who mentioned that the first President had in his life time borrowed two books which never were returned to the library. The books still remain issued in the late President’s name and the amount of fine has mounted to the whooping sum.

According to reports, Late President George Washington borrowed the books back in the year 1798. He borrowed the book on Oct 5 and the due date for the return of the books was Nov.2. However the President never turned up to return the books. He reportedly borrowed the international relations treatise “Law of Nations” and Volume 12 of the British Parliament Transcript series “Commons Debates”. While the Library only charges a fine of few pennies every day, the huge sum is the result of the compilation of late fines for 220 years.

According to reports, the Library authority came to notice this huge amount of late fine when it was digitizing the account book of the library. Reports claim that the library book has in it the borrower’s name signed as the “President” only. However, the ledger digitizing has also revealed that books were borrowed from the library by Alexander Hamilton, Aaron Burr and John Jay reportedly. The New York Society Library officials have said that they are not interested to get the fine paid but would be happy if the books are returned to the library.
