georgeFort Hood, Texas, Nov.6, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Nearly eighteen years after the Luby’s massacre, the residents of Fort Hood remembered the unfortunate mass murders by George Hennard again as a similar incident took place yesterday, in which an army psychiatrist fired openly- killing eleven and injuring many more in Fort Hood, Texas.

Yesterday’s incident was reminiscent of the Luby’s massacre, which is one of the deadliest events in the history United States. The incident had taken place in the month of October in 1991. The incident saw George Hennard drive into Luby’s Cafeteria in his truck and indiscriminately shoot at people. In his shooting spree, George mercilessly killed 23 people and injured around 20 others.

However, the mass murderer later committed suicide by shooting himself, when he was about to be nabbed by the police. George, who was a resident of Belton in Texas was known to be an angry and desolate man who would mostly scare anybody who would encounter him. Supposedly, the day George committed these heinous crimes, he also celebrated his 35th birthday. Following the gruesome incident the cafeteria was closed down but it reopened sometime later. However, after the sad incident that it had encountered the joint could never regain its old charm and finally had to be closed down all together.

Yesterday’s massacre had striking similarities with the George Hennard’s shooting expedition. In the recent incident, Nidal M. Hasan opened fired in a military base with a pair of pistols, which led to deaths and injuries. Similar to the Luby’s massacre, the reasons which led the army person to take such an extreme step is still not clear, although speculations are running high.
