General David Petraeus Seems To Faint During A Senate Inquiry

David Petraeus June 16, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): The commanding officer of the American military in the Middle East, General David Petraeus, fell ill at the witness table during a Senate inquiry on Tuesday. He had to be taken out of the room momentarily. He came back to the room later on and assured to continue giving evidence on Wednesday.

Petraeus was paying attention to Arizonian Republican Senator, John McCain, articulate his apprehensions over the course of the American war effort in Afghanistan. That was the period when Petraeus seemed to faint. His subordinates transported him out of the room. After the passage of a few minutes, Senator Carl Levin, chairperson of the Senate Armed Services Committee, came into view and asserted that Petraeus was consuming food and drinking. It appeared as if the health of Petraeus was in a more enhanced condition.

Prior to becoming a victim of illness, Petraeus had stated under oath that the American and Afghan military personnel were making excellent progress in their difficult battle against the Taliban insurgents.

Petraeus come back subsequent to 25 minutes and expressed readiness to continue testifying. He mentioned that he was experiencing slight dizziness. Nonetheless, Senator Carl Levin ruled against Petraeus and enunciated that he was postponing the inquiry until Wednesday morning.

Petraeus’ spokesperson, Col. Erik Gunhus, asserted that Petraeus was somewhat jet-lagged and definitely desiccated.
