General David Petraeus Faints During Congressional Committee Hearing

June 16, (THAINDIAN NEWS) On Tuesday, an hour into the hearing of the Senate Armed Services Committee on the matter of Afghanistan, General David Petraeus, who is the commander of the U.S. Army in the Middle East collapsed for a few seconds.
The hearing was suspended for twenty minutes and the General was taken to a private room for medical support. However, the general returned to answer the panel after twenty minutes and said that his collapse was due to dehydration.
General David Petraeus also added that he has skipped his breakfast and that the collapse might be the result of it.
At the time of collapse, General David Petraeus was seated at the witness table and was answering questions asked by the Senator John McCain. While answering the questions, General David Petraeus suddenly collapsed forward with his face down on the desk.
Aides standing beside the General rushed to help him and reports claim that he remained unconscious for few seconds. The military doctors present at the House did the initial check up and nothing serious was reported. Not only did General David Petraeus walk to the room again by himself but also joked that he did not collapse due to the questions asked by Senator John McCain.
However, the Senate Armed Services Committee decided to postpone the hearing until June 16, today. The White House later mentioned that the President of United States Barack Obama was informed of the collapse of General David Petraeus and the former reportedly called the latter to inquire about his health.
White House spokesman Bill Burton said to media sources that the President has found that the General was “doing great”.
