Sep 7 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The top commander of the United States forces in Afghanistan has warned that the Church’s planned burning of the holy Quran on September 11 will endanger the lives of United States troops outside the country and put the overall effort in Afghanistan in danger.

Gen. David Petraeus said this in a statement that was released on Monday.

The Church in question - Dove World Outreach Center In Gainseville, Florida has planned to burn copies of the Holy Quran on the anniversary of the September 11 attacks. The Church maintains that it will carry out the act and warns that it is neither an act of hate or love, but a gesture to warn the world of the threat that is posed by the Islamic religion.

But the planned act has already received a lot of criticism from Muslims both in and out of the United States. Thousands of angry Indonesians marched to the United States Embassy in the country to protest against the planned burning of the Muslim Holy Book.

Gen. Petraeus greatest fear is that that act is exactly what the Taliban and other Muslim extremists need to increase the hate of American and NATO troops in Afghanistan. America had recently hinted that to win the war in Afghanistan they need to gain the trust of the Afghan people.
