Gaza, May 31, (THAINDIAN NEWS) In a latest development the Israeli navy has stormed a ship carrying pro-Palestinian activists along with thousands of tons of stuffs to the Gaza strip and at least two casualties have taken place. As per the news obtained from a private TV Channel of Israel the toll stands at 14. The location of the interception is not clear. Earlier Israel asked the flotillas not to get into its territorial waters. The flotillas are carrying an estimated 10,000 tonnes of aid.
The six-ship flotilla left the coast of Cyprus on Sunday and was about to reach Gaza on Monday. Israel imposed an economic blockade after Hamas, an Islamic militant group took hold of Gaza. Israel has made it clear that it allows humanitarian aid worth 15,000 tonnes to reach Gaza every week. However, according to the UN it is quite inadequate for the strip. The Freedom Flotilla promoted by Insani Yardim Vakfi, a Turkish organization the convoy of 6 passenger and cargo boats is the latest endeavor to break the blockade of Gaza by Israel for the last three years. So far the Isreali military has remained mum on the assault on the Gaza flotilla.
The conflict started when passengers attempted to snatch arms from the soldiers who boarded the Gaza protest flotilla. The activists on the ships earlier said they will not resort to force if attacked by the Israeli army. The Israeli army fired and also launched gas shells. Haniyeh, the Hamas Prime Minister came down heavily on the Israeli army for the attacks. The intervention of the UN has been sought in this matter by him.
