Gas rig sinks off Venezuelan coast; no injuries
May 13th, 2010 - 11:16 pm ICT by BNO NewsCARACAS, VENEZUELA (BNO NEWS) — A natural gas rig sank off Venezuela’s Sucre state coast on Wednesday, causing no casualties or environmental damage, local media reported on Thursday.
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez announced the sinking of the Aban Pearl platform earlier on Thursday on his Twitter account, and said all 95 workers on board were safe.
“With regret I inform that the platform Aban Pearl sank a few moments ago. The good news is that 95 workers are safe,” Chavez tweeted.
The Venezuelan Minister of Energy and Petroleum Rafael Ramirez said “there is no risk to the environment”, according to the private TV Station Globovision.
