Oct 13, (THAINDIAN NEWS) It is not uncommon to see international brands and MNCs changing their logo, design or catchline over time and often it is done for revamping or image makeover. However, sometimes the fans and users of the company may become so attached to the design or logo that they can not simply digest the alteration. The same thing happened with famous global retailer Gap. The company decided to change its well known logo. The fans of the brand did not take it nicely after getting accustomed to its logo for near about 20 years.
The shoppers filled the social networking sites including Facebook condemning the new design. After facing the flak in the social networking sites, Gap has decided to withdraw the new design and adopt the older one. Gap’s president Marka Hansen admitted that the buyers identify with the old logo and their protests have compelled the brand to revert to the older one. Facebook was not the only media that was used to raise voice against the logo change. An account was set up at the popular micro blogging site Twitter and it got 5000 followers and a Facebook profile got 2000 comments.
Gap began its journey in the year 1969 and the blue logo loved by the users is nearly 20 years old. It is very popular in USA and Europe and has been ranked as the world’s 84th most-valuable company. It is based in San Francisco. The company decided to alter the logo to give a boost to its image but now it seems that it would have to embrace a different policy.
