Gallatin County, IL sheriff charged with a 15 count Superseding indictment

FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, ILLINOIS (BNO NEWS) – The sheriff of Gallatin County, Illinois was charged on Thursday with a 15 count Superseding indictment related to drug trafficking and witness tampering activities, prosecutors announced.

Raymond Martin, 46, of Junction, Illinois was arrested on May 18, 2009, at his office. He is accused of participating in a marijuana trafficking ring that operated in the Gallatin County area between November 2008 and May 2009. In addition to these charges, he also committed witness tampering offenses from September to December 2009.

The agents also seized approximately $135,000 that are allegedly related to the many counts Martin faces. His Junction residence was identified as the property were marijuana was stashed and was required its forfeiture.

Martin trial’s is scheduled for April 12. If convicted of all charges he faces a maximum term of life in prison.
