Friday the 13th and other superstitions
August 14th, 2010 - 1:23 am ICT by Aishwarya BhattNew York, Aug 13 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Today is the dreaded Friday the 13th and there are a number of superstitions related to the event. The day is so hated and dreaded that a number of firm believers in the subject simply refuse to even leave their house. One of the most quoted theory about the origin of the fear of Friday the 13th is that Jesus died on a Friday and there were 13 people in attendance on the Last Supper.
There are other theories about the phrase as well, but this is the one that has the most number of believers. Apart from Friday the 13th there are other superstitions too connected with the day.
There are other people too who feel that since we expect bad and unlucky things to happen on the day, so that is precisely the reason why they happen in the first place. Researchers also say that whatever the mind and the brain think subconsciously and repeatedly has quite a chance of coming true as well. So this might explain why people who dread the ‘Friday the 13th’ the most have the most number of mishaps too.
However there is a silver lining in the dark cloud as well. Some people are so fearful of being a part of an accident that they don’t drive or best still, stay indoors. And since there are a lesser number of vehicles on the road so there are fewer accidents and so the doctors and the emergency rooms can breathe a little easy.
