SYDNEY (BNO NEWS) — Alain Robert, who is famously dubbed the ‘French Spider-Man’, was arrested on Monday after climbing a skyscraper in Sydney’s central business district, police said. He was later released.

Robert, 48, began scaling the outside of the Lumiere building in Sydney just after 10 a.m. local time on Monday. “[He] entered the building on the corner of Bathurst and George Streets in Sydney before he made his way to the 14th floor of the 56 storey building,” police said in a statement.

Police said Robert then began to scale the outside of the building from a decking on the 14th floor. “He continued to climb until he reached the top of the building where he was arrested by members of the Police Rescue Squad,” the statement said.

The ‘Human Spider’, as he is also referred to, was then taken to the City Central Police Station where police charged him with risking the safety of another by climbing a building and entering enclosed land.

Robert frequently climbs skyscrapers throughout the world, often to raise awareness of global warming. He climbed, among dozens more, towers such as the Petronas Twin Towers, the Eiffel Tower, the New York Times building, and Taipei 101.

Robert was granted conditional bail and will appear at the Downing Centre Local Court on September 3 to face the charges.
