July 24, (THAINDIAN NEWS) A 40 year old painting by Frank Frazetta has been bought by a private collector for a whopping $1.5 million. The depiction of the legendary hero ‘Conan The Destroyer’ has been bought from the family trust according to the managers of the legendary artist. The managers have also confirmed that this is the highest price ever paid for a painting by Frank Frazetta. The sale occurs two months after the death of Frank Frazetta.
The works of Frank Frazetta has often graced the covers of famous comic books and magazines. He is known for his iconic illustrations of Tarzan, Conan, Death Dealer and other comic book characters. He was known as a science fiction artist and is considered an influence for many big artists all over. He passed away in May this year and he was also in the news as reports of a conflict over his estate emerged. Last year Frank Frazetta Jr. was seen trying to break into the artist’s collection at a museum with a backhoe to take out some of his art. The family feud created huge media frenzy as it was alleged that the son has stolen paintings worth millions from his father’s collection.
The painting that has sold for the eye popping amount has been an unlikely sale as art of the 70s is not considered much valuable today. The painting shows Conan slashing with his axe a group of people who are bundled together in a group ready to be slaughtered by the mighty hero. The Frank Frazetta Museum also sells prints of his work at $10 each.
