Fourteen high school students gunned down at a party in Mexico’s Juarez

CIUDAD JUAREZ (BNO NEWS) — At least 14 people were killed and 14 were injured as hitmen stormed a house while teenagers were partying in Ciudad Juarez on Sunday, local authorities said.

Hitmen arrived in several cars, blocked the streets and stormed the high school student party, officials confirmed in press conference Sunday afternoon.

The gunmen started shooting from outside the house and then went room by room killing the students, and pursued others as they tried to escape by jumping over a fence. At least 111 AK-47 bullet casings were found at scene, a police source told CNN.

When the police and the Army arrived at the scene, they were confronted by angry residents. It was not clear if any of the students were linked to a drug cartel, but at least one of them witnessed a multiple homicide days ago, according to El Diario newspaper.

State officials offered a reward of 1 million pesos, about $800,000, for information leading to the capture of the gunmen.

Also it was reported that gunmen stormed into a bar in the city of Torreon in northern Mexico on Sunday, killing at least 18 people.

At leas 20 people were injured, according to police sources, the Vanguardia newspaper said on its website. Three people were found dead in Torreon’s nearby city Gomez Palacios, the newspaper added.

The Mexican Pacific coast was also hit by drug related violence in the last 24 hours. Two people were found dead in Acapulco in the Guerrero State. Two civilians and one police officer were killed in Lazaro Cardenas in the Michoacan state.
