Four tons of marijuana seized in tanker trailer in Texas
February 24th, 2010 - 4:36 am ICT by BNO NewsMCALLEN, TEXAS (BNO NEWS) – A McAllen, Texas area man was arrested after the discovery of more than four tons of marijuana, prosecutors said on Tuesday.
Jaime Fernandez Cantu, 33, was taken into federal custody on Feb. 18 and charged with possession with intent to distribute 2,198.5 kilograms of marijuana, which were found in 206 bundles of marijuana inside a tanker trailer parked at a residence on N. Ware Rd. in McAllen.
Cantu has remained in federal custody without bond awaiting his detention hearing scheduled Tuesday.
The offense of possession with intent to distribute more than 1000 kilograms of marijuana carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years imprisonment up to a life term of imprisonment and a $4 million fine.
