BOSTON (BNO NEWS) — Four more soldiers, two of them Britons, were killed in southern Afghanistan on Monday, the country’s Ministry of Defence said.

The British soldiers were killed as a result of an explosion that happened while on a foot patrol north of Lashkar Gah District in southern Helmand Province on Monday morning. The two service members were from The Black Watch, 3rd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland.

“Everyone in Task Force Helmand is deeply saddened by the deaths of these two brave soldiers,” said Lieutenant Colonel Nick Richardson, a spokesman for the Task Force Helmand. “While there are no words that can ease their loss, our heartfelt sympathies go to their families, friends and fellow soldiers at this extremely difficult time.”

Two other soldiers were also killed in southern Afghanistan on Monday, the NATO-led ISAF alliance said in a statement. The soldiers, whose nationality was not immediately released, died during a firefight with insurgent, but further details were not immediately available.

“I convey my most heartfelt sympathies to the families, friends and comrades of these brave service members,” said Brigadier-General Eric Tremblay, a spokesman for ISAF. “They fell as they were providing much needed security to the Afghan population in the south. ISAF nations stand united in this tough but winnable struggle to protect Afghan civilians.”

Next of kin of the soldiers have been informed.
