Four civilians killed after NATO troops open fire on Afghan passenger bus
April 12th, 2010 - 4:06 pm ICT by BNO NewsKABUL (BNO NEWS) — Four civilians were killed and nearly two dozen others were injured when NATO troops opened fire on a passenger bus in southern Afghanistan on Monday, the government said.
The incident happened around 6 a.m. local time in the Jala district of Kandahar province. “A passenger bus was heading from Kandahar to Herat province this morning at 6 a.m. local time, when international troops opened fire on the bus killing four people including a woman and a child,” the statement said. It said 18 other people were also injured, of which 12 were transported to a NATO-led ISAF hospital.
ISAF said it was aware of the incident, and said a joint ISAF and Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) assessment team will go to Kandahar to review the incident. “We are aware of the incident resulting in civilian casualties in Kandahar province this morning,” said Marcin Walczak, a spokesperson for ISAF. “An Joint ISAF/ANSF assessment team is scheduled to Kandahar this morning to review the incident.”
