Major Nidal Malik Hasan Fort Hood, Nov 6 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Major Nidal Malik Hasan, an Army psychiatrist who is positioned at the Killeen U.S. Army base, in a fit of rampage, went on a shooting spree in the Soldier Readiness Center and killed 13 people and injured at least 30 others. His shooting spree got a full stop when the police opened fire at him and injured him. Contrary to reports, he hasn’t been shot to death.

The motive behind the sudden shooting spree is not yet clear, as Malik Nadal Hasan was a psychiatrist who used to treat wounded soldiers at Walter Reed Army Centre in Washington, but he got bad reviews, which in turn got him transferred to Fort Hood. There might have been a deep resentment and frustration in his being, which might have led to the shooting spree. Besides, this he was due to ship out to war, and his family said he did not want to go.

“We’ve known for the last five years that was his worst nightmare,” cousin Nader Hasan, calling the suspect “a good American.” He is said to have been also suffering some sort of discrimination from the Army, perhaps due to his Muslim bearings. “He was dealing with some harassment from his military colleagues. I don’t think he’s ever been disenchanted with the military. It was the harassment. He hired a military attorney to try to have the issue resolved, pay back the government, to get out of the military. He was at the end of trying everything,” according to his cousin.

In the latest developments, Nidal is shot, and is not critical as has been reported earlier, and “His death is not imminent,” according to Lt. Gen. Bob Cone at Fort Hood.
