Former U.S. President Clinton to travel to Haiti on Monday

Bill Clinton NEW YORK CITY (BNO NEWS) — Former U.S. President and U.N. Special Envoy for Haiti Bill Clinton will travel to quake-ravaged Haiti on Monday to meet with Haitians and deliver emergency relief supplies, his office said in a statement on Sunday.

Clinton is scheduled to meet with Haitian President Rene Preval and other members of the Haitian government and the international community to discuss the way forward, his office said. The former president will also visit with personnel and volunteers on the ground.

“As UN Special Envoy for Haiti, I feel a deep obligation to the Haitian people to visit the country and meet with President Preval to ensure our response continues to be coordinated and effective,” former President Clinton said.

On Saturday, at the invitation of President Obama, former President Clinton and former President Bush agreed to lead a major fundraising efforts. The fundraising effort has been dubbed the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund.

Earlier, Clinton’s wife, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, also arrived in Haiti.
