Baghdad, Sep 6 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Saddam Hussein’s former international ambassador stated on Sunday that he believes he won’t leave jail alive because he’s too old to serve his entire sentence.

Tariq Aziz talked to AP on Sunday for a short time and stated that at 74 years old and over 20 more years of prison time to do, from his criminal acts during Saddam’s government, he believes he won’t survive prison.

He said his life will end in prison soon because he’s already 74 years old. The former Iraqi minister who was at the forefront of Saddam Hussein’s foreign policy was regarded as a tough-looking, no-nonsense guy, but his health has deteriorated over the past couple of years, due to series of illness and the harsh conditions of prison. He now finds it difficult to walk and needs the aid of a walking stick.

He turned himself in to the US soldiers in May 2003, just a month after the US led war started. He was detained in US run prison in Baghdad until last month when the Iraqi’s took over control of the prison.

Aziz stated that he’s tired of living and hopes Iraq gets a good future.
