Former El Reno, OK prison guard sentenced for smuggling contraband into prison

OKLAHOMA CITY (BNO NEWS) – A former prison guard on Tuesday was sentenced in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to serve fourteen months in prison after smuggling contraband into federal prison, prosecutors say.

Randall L. Sorrells, 56, was sentenced by a U.S. District Judge to serve a prison sentence after agreeing to receive a bribe of $2,000 to smuggle contraband into the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) at El Reno, Oklahoma.

Sorrells was a former prison guard at FCI-El Reno and was indicted by a federal grand jury in May 2009. According to information presented in Court proceedings, Sorrells agreed to receive $2,000 from an undercover agent in return for smuggling contraband into the prison. Sorrells pled guilty in August of 2009.

This case is the result of an investigation conducted by the Department of Justice Office of Inspector General.
